The main reason most 65W power banks on the market fail to charge Samsung phones at 45W comes down to a mismatch in charging protocols.

Standard 65W power banks typically rely on traditional USB PD (Power Delivery) standards, delivering 65W via 20V / 3.25A (high voltage, lower current), which is ideal for laptops and notebooks.

However, flagship Samsung smartphones supporting Super Fast Charging 2.0 (45W) use a completely different power management design. Samsung requires low voltage paired with very high current: specifically around 9V - 11V at a high current of 4.5A - 5A!

️ The Hidden Requirement: "PPS 5A" Support

For a power bank to output 10V / 4.5A-5A, it must support a technology called PPS (Programmable Power Supply) capable of delivering up to 5A of current.

  • Standard Power Banks (Standard PD or PPS 3A only): When connected to a Samsung phone, the phone's power IC detects that the power bank only supports up to 3A. For safety reasons, it caps power delivery at 9V / 3A (25W) or drops it down to 15W.

Another crucial requirement: the charging cable must be a Type-C to Type-C cable supporting 5A current (featuring an E-Marker chip). Using a standard 3A cable will cap charging at 25W regardless of the power bank's specs.
